House
The House Team is for athletes looking to learn about, prepare for and participate in competition climbing. Athletes develop and refine their climbing skills and engage with the “Learn to Train”, “Train to Train” and “Learn to Compete” levels of the Long-Term Athlete Development Program +. Athletes are encouraged to compete at this level.
Focus
- Learn competition formats and tactics
- Acquire knowledge on how to train for competition climbing (periodization, correct procedure and form, etc.)
- Discover lead climbing and lead belaying
- Refine known skillsets and competition tactics
- Participate in competitions as desired
Commitment
2 days per week, 2.5 hours per training day
Experience Required
- 1+ years of climbing on a consistent basis (in a Base5 program or equivalent; recreationally; etc)
- Mastery of top-rope belaying
- Solid working knowledge of basic to intermediate climbing technique
- Minimum route redpoint grade 5.10 on top-rope, boulder redpoint grade V2

Current House Athletes
Select
The Select Team is for athletes looking to train for and participate in competition climbing, with an introductory focus on competition performance. Athletes continue to refine their climbing skills, and begin to explore nuances of their climbing training such as mental tactics, nutrition and mobility/recovery. The Select Team engages with the “Train to Train” and “Train to Compete” levels of the Long-Term Athlete Development Program +. Athletes are required to compete at this level.
Focus
- Develop personal and competition climbing confidence
- Improve competition tactics and strategy to increase ranking to qualify for Youth Regionals and Nationals
- Attend all competitions to maximize ranking; attend Regionals and Nationals as qualified
- Elevate focus during training and competition
Commitment
3 days per week, 3 hours per training day
Experience Required
- 1+ year of competition climbing in a competitive or pre-competitive program (eg: the House Team)
- Minimum age of second year Youth C (12+)
- Solid lead climbing and lead belaying required
- All basic technique mastered and solid working knowledge of intermediate to advanced technique
- Minimum route redpoint of 5.11 on lead

Current Select Athletes
Elite
The Elite Team is for athletes looking to perform at a high level at competitions, specifically regional and national events. Athletes in this group seek to obtain consideration for CEC (Climbing Escalade Canada) national team programs and attend Youth World Championships. Athletes in this group engage with the “Train to Train” and “Train to Compete” levels of the Long-Term Athlete Development Program +. Athletes are required to compete at this level.
Focus
- Performing (i.e. achieving a podium or qualifying for Finals) at Youth/Open Nationals
- Develop and refine “fine” athletic abilities such as visualization, mental resilience, injury prevention and mobility.
- Exemplary focus during training and competition
Commitment
4 days per week, 2 hours per training day
Experience Required
- 2+ years of climbing on a consistent basis (in a Base5 program or equivalent; recreationally; etc)
- Minimum age of second year Youth B
- Confidence in lead climbing and belaying without hesitation
- Utilization and understanding of advanced technique
- Select Team (or equivalent) experience required
